Jesus’s family tree isn’t pretty. And that’s good news for us, because we live in a world of broken relationships, including our families. Jospeh’s story reminds us that the gospel cannot be defeated by our dysfunction.
We are all searching for joy. We’ll only find true, lasting joy as we follow Jesus by faith. We learn from this part of Jospeh’s life that we can enjoy Jesus even when don’t understand what He is doing in our lives.
At the center of Joseph’s story, our lives, and world history is a struggle between two different worldviews, paganism and Christianity. Paganism is alive and well in the world today and it is just as harmful as it was in Joseph’s day. God’s word teaches us how to engage paganism and present the true gospel of grace.
The end of Jospeh’s story sets the stage for everything that happens in the Bible after it. This part of his journey also helps us answer one of the most pressing questions we’ll ever ask: “If God is good, why is there so much evil in the world?”
